4 Features To Look For In Your First Fountain Pen

Fountain pens are very classic pens that comes with their own unique features and characteristics. They are not like other pens. Fountain pens can be refilled with ink and can be used again and again, making them a long-term investment.

#1 Size

The first thing that you need to take into consideration is the size of the pen. Fountain pens can be shorter or longer in length, and they can also have smaller or larger diameters. They come in so many sizes because they are designed to fit the size and shape of your hand. Someone with a smaller hand would use a smaller pen and someone with a larger hand would use a longer and wider pen.

Getting a pen that fits the size of your hand will prevent your hand from getting tired while using the pen and stop your hand from cramping as well.

#2 Weight

Second, you need to consider the weight of the pen. How do you like a pen to feel in your hand? Do you like a pen to feel heavy in your hand, like it has some weight and heft? Or do you prefer a pen to feel really light, as if you are writing with a feather?

Check the weight of the pen when purchasing a fountain pen so you get the right effect.

#3 Capped Or Retractable

Third, how to you want to protect the tip of your fountain pen? Traditionally, most fountain pens come with caps. The cap can either be a snap-on cap or it can be a screw-on cap.

However, newer fountain pens can also be retractable. This is great if you don't want to keep track of a pen cap or if you frequently lose pen caps. You want to protect the tip of the fountain pen from getting damaged.

#4 Nib Tip Size

The size of a tip can vary with fountain pens. The tip of the pen, or the nib, affects how broad the lines are that you can make with the fountain pen. The pen tips for a fountain pen can be extra fine, fine, medium or broad. The size of the lines that the pen makes that will work best for you depends upon your writing style. If you tend to write with really small penmanship, an extra fine or fine nib tip will make your penmanship look best. If you tend to have larger, looper handwriting, a medium or broad nib tip will make your penmanship look best.
